Aurus Kennis- en TrainingsSystemen (Aurus KTS) BV, the Netherlands
Aurus KTS was founded in Maastricht on 26 October 2000 and is partly (1/3) owned by the University of Maastricht. The activities of Aurus KTS are focussed on e-learning and Knowledge Management (KM). These activities cover conceptual modelling as well as ICT, organisational and social development and/or implementation. Aurus KTS combines recent scientific findings with state of the art information technology to solve practical problems put forward by its clients in the public and private sector. During the last years the projects have been mainly on Knowledge Management covering a wide range of domains. Some of the well-known clients are: SHELL, AKZO-NOBEL, Ministry of Water, Public Works and Transport, Open University and University of Maastricht. Aurus KTS develops computer-supported training, just-in-time learning and collaborative working systems. The products integrate internet, database and knowledge management technologies into user centred learning and working environments. In particular, we focus on training in and support of working methods, technology and software within organisations. Main aspects in these environments are user empowerment (authoring functionality for the end-users) and the use of social networks. The founders of Aurus KTS played a pioneering role in various R&D (EU-funded) projects in telelearning, simulation-based learning, flexible and open-learning and in integrated working and learning. This has partly been done within the context of other organisations. Aurus KTS uses its accumulated expertise for design and development of custom-based applications, applied research, feasibility studies and consultancy. In the past our recognised strength was in rapid prototyping and combining existing software to make new concepts work. Recently this has been extended with more
organisational and social skills. Recent Projects - SKILL: Shell Knowledge Integrated Lifelong Learning environment for engineers, an integrated work and learning environment for ScaleChem, a simulation tool in the domain of scaling. Contract: Shell. Partner: Nuis Exploration and Production Services. - Virtual Expertise Centre Health an integrated working environment for Health Workers to use knowledge management techniques to exchange their expertise and knowledge at an international scale. Contract: AKZO-Nobel. Partner: Essence Knowledge Management. - MosaIK uses the VEC software to implement several pilots on Knowledge Management to do real life testing of the concepts in working groups. The pilots did gather pitfalls with the dos and don’ts and are to prepare a possible organisational wide implementation of Knowledge Management. Contract: Ministry of Water, Public Works and Transport – Branch Limburg. - Prisma Assessments uses psychological testing to assess the knowledge, experience and competences for the whole ICT-staff of the local university. Contract: University of Maastricht. Partner: Maas Assessment and Development BV. The contribution of Aurus KTS will be mainly dedicated to WP3 Scenarios and WP7 Validation. This is in line with their pioneering role in design (in particular from the end-user perspective), introduction and validation of various innovative concepts in e-learning and knowledge management.
